required stuff:
- mind-map: 2608-mapping.
- inquiry + proposal: brainwrite-7_260827.
- past thesis inspirations are in 2608-mapping & other inspiring projects can be found in this tag-list.
actual updates:
- brainstormed further: 260910_mapping; built on initial enquiry. realized things i don’t want to do; things i do want to do. built on conversation with danny-rozin too.
- tried & failed at electrowetting. currently reading literature, and talking to microfluidics experts soon. plus matt-griffin. update @260917: got it to work. need to fine-tune it to make it usable though.
- spoke to nasif (conversation with nasif) — which was a brilliant chat & a much needed reminder.
in general, i’m finding it hard to find sustained time to pursue my enquiry. my time is split between classes & jobs (especially understanding-networks & computer-graphics). i think i’m going to spend 2 dedicated days — 1 is thesis & understanding-networks, and the other is computer-graphics. i can spend the least amount of time on shared-minds, and just combine prototyping-electronic-devices with a thesis experiment (one that i want to make 1-d or 2-d if i’m feeling adventurous).
260921:
the following is a brainwrite, but it needed to be that way for me to make sense of my brain. you can just skim through the highlighted stuff.
i then proceeded to write an email to margaret, after nasif sent me itp theses traps (and i realized that i’m a victim of trap #1). while writing the email, i realized that:
my enquiry is not about cellular automata (although i do think that alternative perceptual representations for that is a potent area of research). i just don't have the time to pull it off.
so, my research could be around alternative display paradigms for rule-based-systems. i say that — most importantly to remove the criteria of success for a 'display' to be the accurate representation of an image.
the hope is that if these systems exist, they force the maker to let go of an image in their head — keeping them more in line with using code as a medium, as opposed to a tool (and, thereby, vibe-coding to get the idea of the image in their head).
i know i need to talk to mimi. but i can foresee that it would help to have that conversation with some sort of prototype (even if it’s not technologically ready, and i speak with my hands in the air).
i also need to clean up my research which is scattered across pages. these are my three collections of research (each page has the question that the page is answering):
