Role

People

Mentor: Anurag Dasgupta

Camera help: Atreyo Roy

Context

The objective of Anurag's workshop was for each student to understand the fundamentals of filmmaking & produce a short documentary film with their smartphones.

Learning how to take shots, cut and put together a sequence.

Being an avid rock climber myself, I found peoples’ reasons for climbing diverse & fascinating. This became the context for my documentary film: what are the reasons that different people climb for and what makes them come back for more?

Output

I hung around at BoulderBox, my local climbing gym, for two days with an iPhone 7. I spoke to ten people, found patterns in their answers and created a four-minute long film. If the embed below doesn't work, you can watch it here.

Final film, also screened at IIAD.

I also had fun designing the posters for the film. I used stills from a close-up shot of hands slipping from a hold, to show movement & intrigue people.

The typography choices were influenced by my Swiss graphic design fascination at the time.
