shobhan repeatedly says how ‘fortunate’ it is that i don’t have many things to worry about, and can just spend my life making (as opposed to him having to talk with his partner over video calls for the first year of his graduate-education).
i never really understood it. while it is incredibly lonely, it is also a conducive environment for producing work. i literally have nothing else to worry about — little to no family obligations, social obligations; or obligations of any kind. i am free to choose how i want to spend my time, and because of the way my life is set-up, a chunk of it goes into work.
