in alternative display research, i realized that danny-rozin’s past work is closely related to mine. so, we spoke. some notes:

  • can you include physicality as part of the seed?. therefore, the same automata would play out very differently across different representations.
  • human gaze as input?
  • think about differences in perception & computation. this is related to what mimi has told me before. we see an image altogether, but hear sounds one after the other.
  • explore how senses work in humans. he was explaining how an image is represented in the eye, and i realized i knew nothing about all of that.
  • look at how a medium may interact with each other (perhaps descend into chaos; like feedback).
  • maybe look at simulating the build instead of making it (p5 / blender).
  • think of macro — this system (you can see multiple perceivable representations), and then micro (each individual build). perhaps important to consider the project as a whole: am i building a family, or attempting to arrive at one?"
  • he recommended building one. we discussed the exploration of, perhaps, many one-dimensional ones.
