had the most beautiful conversation with tanika.

  • she nudged me to arrive at the fact that my work has elements of performance in it. nujum was the first one who spoke about it in my presentation about hypercinema_experiments_week-5_to_week-6.
  • that i have some sort of impostor syndrome about being a performer.
  • that i have grown so much since just the first year (or even the summer).
  • that i must go out more; spend more time with friends.
  • that i am a part of this community that has enabled something; that i have grown here; that i have found a safe space; that i thrive here.
  • i must be a part of that performance.
  • she said something beautiful: “in my mtdna project, the whole science and whatever was not the moment … it was when i said that i wanted to preserve this thing that i got from my mother” and to say that with her in that space — that moment we shared — that was the artistic bit. therefore, the sharing of that experience & i had to be there for the work to be received a certain way. true for me, my father & our neurons too.
  • lean into it — the performative angle.
  • other notes:
    • give time for things to incubate. sometimes, i may be operating on a different timeline than the timeline things are operating on.
    • spoke about performance vs presentations. she told me to examine my experience with sarah’s what-if mixer.
    • don’t leave with something passive. when you experience my work, you leave with something you can apply in your life.
    • itp as support net.
