traced the history of 5 practitioners experimenting with synthesizers in the 1960s.

spoke about the idea of a black box: electrical input goes in, a complex non-linear algorithm produces output that cannot be determined; the performance of which cannot be analyzed.

cybernetics-definitions: weiner defines it as a form of 'self governance'. an actor gives input to a complex system.

ra speaks about self-discipline as a virtue. although he claims he was abducted at an early age.

'psychedelic technology’ — i will discover myself more through this computational-exploration because it ‘flows’ through me.

making sounds from synths is not about the sound, but about self-understanding / a form of sonic exploration (pauline oliverios), as opposed to subotnick.

ted gordon spoke a lot about political commitments and how that shapes the work people do. i wonder: whom are my political commitments to?
