4-credit class taken by heather dewey-hagborg, in the second-half of semester-2.
why:
biological-material as working material for me as an artist has always been on my radar, but i never had the tools or education to formally engage with it.
over the years, i’ve stumbled upon the following (and grown curious):
- read a crack in creation — a book on gene-editing — and the fact that i am a certain kind of human is dictated because of certain letters in my dna.
- thejesh making his dna open-source in 2014: https://github.com/thejeshgn/dna
- ‘de-extinction’ work by colossal: https://colossal.com
- the term ‘biohacking’
the course also mentions biopolitics, and with heather’s background in academia, i expect the class to give me (as mimi called it) enough thinking material for my plate.
